The AroundTownKids Special Events Section features "special" events for kids & families in the McKinney area such as kids concerts, Disney on Ice shows, kids theatre productions etc.  These Events are located in McKinney and in the DFW Area.

Beehive Exhibit

Date & Time: Open now museum hours
Location: Heard Museum
Address: 1 Nature Place, McKinney, TX
Description: Bees are busy in our Living Lab, giving visitors the opportunity to see how they make honey first-hand. The bees have access to the hive from outside so visitors can see them through a safe, glass enclosure as they fly in and out of the museum.

Dinosaurs Alive! at the Heard Museum

Description: Life-size Animatronic Dinosaurs!  Twelve life-size ones and two baby ones for the kids to play on!  The exhibit gives family and friends a unique, exciting and educational activity to experience together.  Visitors will get the chance to experience a new trail!
Cost: $8 ages 12 and up; seniors and 3-12 $5; Members and under 3 are free

Madeline's Christmas

Date & Time: November 21st to December 21st; Fridays at 7:30pm; Saturdays at 1:30pm; Sundays at 1:30pm & 4:30pm

Description: Joyeux Noel and Bonne Annee! Celebrate the season in picturesque Paris with the famous and precocious little sweetheart adored by generations for her bravery and kindness. Bakes on the book, this holiday musical adventure is a French delight filled with surprising miracles.

Rudolph The Red-Nosed Reindeer

Date & Time: November 21st to December 21st; Fridays at 7pm; Saturdays at 2pm & 7pm; Sundays at 2pm

Description: Young, shy Rudolph is laughed at because of his bright red nose. But that glowing nose comes in very handy when Santa needs someone to save Christmas by serving as a beacon to guide his sleigh. Join Dasher, Dancer, Prancer, Comet, Cupid and all the other reindeer as Rudolph captures their admiration and proves he is a true Christmas hero.

Santa's Holiday For Strings: A Puppetry Extravaganza

Description: Starring Santa and Frosty, and featuring Christmas trees, penguins, and seasonal gifts, this innovative holiday celebration honors peace, joy and love. Utilizing multiple styles of puppetry, Kathy Burks' nationally celebrated troupe captures the spirit of the season in an exciting musical revue filled with fun, friendship and family.

Stingray Bay

Date & Time: Zoo hours through November 30th
Location: Dallas Zoo
Address: 650 South R.L. Thornton Freeway (I-35E), Dallas, TX 75203
Description: You’ll enter a tropically landscaped paradise where you can discover the sensation of nearly two- dozen cownose rays and southern stingrays as they glide beneath your fingertips in their shallow, 17,000-gallon saltwater pool. (Don’t worry, mom, the barbs are humanely clipped  - so it’s safe for the whole family!)

You can feed the rays, too (during scheduled feeding times), and Zoo staff and volunteers will be on hand to answer questions and offer informative talks about stingray behaviors and habitats in the wild.

Cost: Exhibit Admission: $2.50 per person (Zoo admission separate) Feeding: $1.00 per portion - Availability limited to scheduled feedings.


The Backyardigans

Description: Nickelodeon's backyard friends, The Backyardigans, come to life for preschoolers in their brand-new live show, The Backyardigans Live! Tale of the Mighty Knights! Join Knights Uniqua and Tyrone as they embark on a quest to protect King Pablo's unpredictable egg. Along the way, Grabbing Goblin Austin and Flighty Fairy Tasha join the medieval mayhem as the runaway egg hatches feet and makes an unexpected dash all the way up to Dragon Mountain! The Backyardigans will need the audience's help to face a mighty dragon and return the egg to the king. The Backyardigans Live! will have the entire family singing, dancing and laughing along to songs of courage, friendship and the power of imagination.
